The young golfers of India, and from anywhere else for that matter, could not have a better role model than Jeev Milkha Singh.
The consummate professional got his just rewards last weekend with an incredible victory in the Scottish Open after finally overcoming a long list of injury problems.
Jeev was in the clubhouse having chocolate cake and a cup of tea 90 minutes before the leaders and challengers were not only due to complete their rounds, but also finalise the event’s pecking order.
But one by one the would-be winners fell away until Italy’s Francesco Molinari finally holed a ten-foot putt on the last green to send him into a play-off with our man from the sub-continent.
Jeev needed just one hole to seal the deal and collect his just deserts and an added bonus to the win was that Jeev will now be on his way to Lytham for the Open rather than having a planned family holiday in India.
Among ISM clients joining Jeev will be Matt Baldwin, who had a splendid week in Scotland, finishing tied fifth after a final round 67. Matt is enjoying a rich vein of form and has every reason to think that he can continue his quick progression since turning pro.
All eyes will be on Lancashire this week as golf’s greatest circus rolls into town. There’s nothing quite like this week and hopefully we will get the weather the championship deserves.
