A Charl Schwartzel double, a Richard Finch fight back and a couple of ISM firsts made for a wonderful weekend in South Africa.
Charl’s successful defence of his Alfred Dunhill Championship title was not quite as emphatic as his runaway triumph 12 months ago, but he looked every bit the assured and intelligent golfer he has become in winning by four shots.
Finchy coped well under huge pressure as he continued to rebuild his career after losing his card last season and was a deserved second, while Simon Dyson and Romain Wattell claimed a share of third place which meant a first for ISM with four players among the top five.
With Simon Wakefield and Danny Willett also up there, we managed to have no fewer than six players in the top-ten – another first for us. Well done and every reason why we can look forward to a strong 2014.
There were other notable performances because Amateur champion Garrick Porteous showed that he will not be out of his depth when he turns professional next year – finishing in the top 20. And Kevin Phelan also showed why he will prosper in the paid ranks with 24th place so soon after graduating from Tour School.... » More
