Ending the year with a bang

There’s nothing like ending the year with a win and what a great boost for Lee Westwood.

Just seven days after Danny Willett produced a stunning performance at Sun City for his second European Tour win, Lee took another step nearer a half century of titles by claiming the Thailand Golf Championship.

There are few if any better hard-course players in the world and although it was a come-from-behind win for the Englishman, he did it in customary style. It moved Lee into a much more comfortable position inside the world’s top 50 and gave him a real shot of confidence going into 2015.

Also on a charge is Tommy Fleetwood, who finished fourth behind Lee, but now heads to Dubai with a major incentive awaiting in the city of skyscrapers and opportunity.

Tommy can claim a place in Augusta for the season’s first grand slam title if he finishes inside the top 17.  The only unfortunate thing is that if he does it will currently be at the expense of Danny. I’m sure they will both be there at The Masters whatever happens because they are both that good.

We were also very well represented in South Africa where Louis Oosthuizen finished second at the Alfred Dunhill Championship which was his fourth top-10 finish out of the last five while Danny was in with a big shout of making it a double, but eventually had to settle for fourth. It was still a great way to end the year.

Well played also Espen Kofstad, who returned from an injury-plagued season to claim 14th on his return to the European Tour, while Ben An was not far behind. Watch out for those two next season as well as many others of our ever-improving stable.
