Welcome to Royal Portrush
Posted: 28th June 2012
Just a quick blog before the big event starts here! It’s great to have the event at my home course and I’m just bursting with pride to see it all taking shape on my doorstep.
On Wednesday I played in the pro-am with Shane Filan, my dad Godrey and eldest son Tyrone and I have to say I was a very proud man standing on that first tee. Shane and Tyrone played very well, dad not so well with age catching up on him! Tyrone had eight pars and two birdies and cost me a few quid because Chubby and I had promised him money for pars and birdies!
The response from all my fellow professionals has been fantastic towards the course and this is the very first time that they have pre-sold all the tickets for an event…..ever!
The forecast for the week is for four days of inclement weather so the course will be bearing its teeth and making things very interesting.
I hope everyone that is here watching and all those watching on tv will enjoy it as much as we all will.
A special thank you to the European Tour and to Wilma Erskine and all the members of her team at Royal Portrush for the hard work they have done and the understanding they have shown alongside the Tour to present the course in amazing condition.
Enjoy and I shall report in again next week. Darren.

Overall my ambitions are to foster goodwill through the game of golf and to show children all over Ireland that golf is a great game, it’s a healthy game which promotes integrity and honesty and can be played by people of all ages.
